Always, eh? Leo liked that twist. Made him feel pretty special. He looked to the Father and nodded, quite ready to continue so he could put his lips on hers. The old priest returned the nod, and Leo turned to Frankie.
The big cat handed Leonardo a sparkling white collar studded with rhinestones and diamonds. Several oooohs and aaaaahs floated from the crowd, marveling at it's beauty. Of course the diamonds were fake, and maybe some of the rhinestone's, but nobody really cared about that. It was the beauty that counted. And Mancini had definitely stolen this though some kind of heist. Somebody probably got pinched for it. It was a size extra so that Juliet could slip in and out of it like a necklace. Leo had chosen it because it reminded him of her old collar the day they met. He had chosen a different color and design though as to not bring back any bad memories.
He took the collar and the priest spoke:
"You have a collar...repeat after me: I give you this collar, as a symbol of our love...."
"I give you dis collah, as a symbol of our love...."
"...For today and tomorrow, and for all the days to come....."
"Fuh t'day an' t'morrah, an' fuh awl da days to come..."
"Wear it as a sign of what we have promised on this day...."
"Weah it as a sign of wat we's promised on dis day. You know if ya wanna."
The priest shook his head, smiling, and continued. "And know that my love is present, even when I am not."
"An' know dat my love is present, even when I ain't." Leonardo placed the collar-necklace over her head, fighting the urge to kiss her. "Wit dis collah, I thee wed."
The priest smiled, looking back and forth at them. He was obviously holding out on purpose.
"Yous killin' me fatha." Everyone laughed, including the priest.
"Then by the power vested in me by....Leonardo Mancini," everyone laughed again, "I hereby pronounce you Mr. and Mrs. Leonardo Ricardo Mancini! You sir, may kiss your bride!"
Leo was already advancing toward her. He met her lips and gave her a tender, smooth kiss. He could barely hear it, but everyone was shouting congratulations and howling, even banging noisemakers. This was truly a happy moment. One of the most legendary in the Mancini legacy. "I love you, Julie baby..." he whispered.
"I present to you the happy couple!" The priest grinned. Frankie whispered something in his ear. "Oh! We will be having the reception right here, and it will start immediately. Please help your self to the refreshments and Guido! Pump that radio!"
Guido switched on Fly me to the Moon, and the party started.
